LAURA MORIN
SWANTONLaura Morin, the sixteenth child of eighteen, born to Marie Blanche (Fournier) and Richard Larouche, died on May 15, 2012. Her husband, Pete Morin, will happily greet her at heaven’s gate and say “C’mon Laura, let’s go fish’n”.
Laura was born Marie Laure Patricia Larouche on June 5, 1924 in Lorrainville, Quebec. She came to Swanton (at the insistence of her Aunt Eugenie) in her mid-twenties. She worked as a waitress at the Village Dinette in Swanton where she met Romuald (Pete) Morin. After a short courtship they married on Nov. 5, 1949. They had six children in nine years. Laura was an excellent mother and she loved preparing meals and canning vegetables from her huge garden. During the early years of her marriage she became a naturalized citizen, an accomplishment of which she was so proud.
Laura enjoyed her role as a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her great-grandchildren were the joy of her life and she often said “God is keeping me here on this earth so I can enjoy my great-grandchildren.”
Fishing with her family was a passion of hers, especially with her son Mike. Laura enjoyed playing cards, cribbage, word circle puzzles and visiting with her family and friends. Holidays were always filled with wonderful homemade dishes, especially her “tortierre” meat pies.
She was extremely proud of her French-Canadian heritage and loved telling stories of the dog sled that her father made for her. She would run errands for the farm using her sled pulled by her dog team of “Pet and Pet Peetoo.” She was the last child to leave the farm and her parents.
She is survived by her six children; Linda Daniel and husband Tom of Essex, Beverly Dupuis and husband Marc from Swanton, Richard Morin and wife Ofelia of Lake Helen, Fla., Michael Morin from East Highgate, David Morin and his wife Ann from Bristol, Tenn., and Claude Morin of Orange City, Fla.
